Kenyan President Nominates Opposition Ministers
Kenya’s president has added four ministers from the main opposition party to his new Cabinet. He did this to build a broad-based government that could deal with the problems with government that came up during the deadly protests.
President William Ruto put in his new Cabinet the minority leader in parliament and the party head of opposition leader Raila Odinga, even though the opposition coalition was split and other parties pulled out of talks with the government.
The president chose Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, both deputy leaders of the ODM party, to be the Cabinet secretaries for the Mining and Co-operatives Ministries.
The nominees will join 11 people whose papers are already in the National Assembly being checked out.
Law says that the President can name at least 15 CSs and no more than 22.
