ToggleConservatives’ worst losses ever
With 410 seats won, they have dealt the Conservatives one of their worst losses ever.
This indicates that the Conservative Party has not been in power for the previous fourteen years.
Starmer declared in a victory speech, “We did it.” “Change starts right now… We promised to put an end to the turmoil, and we will; we also promised to turn the page, which we have done. We begin the next chapter, the purpose of national renewal, the task of transformation, and the process of rebuilding our nation now.”
Starmer stated that he is “ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people” and that it “feels good” to be doing so well.
Rishi Sunak defeated
A dejected Rishi Sunak stated he had called Starmer to congratulate him on winning and accepted loss.
“Today power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides,” Sunak stated. “There is much to learn and reflect on and I take responsibility for the loss to the many good hardworking Conservative candidates … I am sorry.”
King Charles III accepted Sunak’s resignation, and the monarch asked Starmer—the head of the biggest party in parliament—to establish a government.
Brexit prompted the remarkable comeback of Labour five years ago, as hard-left former leader Jeremy Corbyn led the party to its worst defeat since 1935.
