Hours before President William Ruto joins X, formerly Twitter to engage with Generation Z (Gen Zs) on matters affecting the country, the head of state has been cautioned.Read More
Speaking on Friday morning during an interview with KTN News, former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa said it was a big mistake for Ruto to meet with Gen Zs at such a time.
According to Arap Kirwa, Ruto should refrain from being at the forefront of Gen Z fire and that his meeting on X is ill-advised. Instead, Arap Kirwa said Ruto could have used different government organs to engage the young people and only come in when things have cooled down.
Meeting with Gen Zs
“The president should refrain from being at the forefront of every fire. The meeting with Gen Z is ill-advised. It is a big mistake. What he should have done is to see how the various organs of government should have interfaced with the young people and at the right time he comes in when he is called to do so,” he stated.
He said his advisors have failed him since there is going to be a lot of information conflicts when Ruto meets Gen Zs. He said when the ground is hostile, a leader should retreat until things settle, adding that he cannot solve the problems of Kenya alone.
Ruto is set to meet the youths from 2 pm on Friday to 5 pm, addressing various issues affecting the youths. Ruto is expected to engage the Kenyan youth on the platform in line with his promise during a roundtable interview with digital media journalists held at State House, Nairobi, on Sunday.
Ruto’s decision to join the forum came after the reservations from Gen Zs about participating in the multi-sectoral discussions he recently proposed to address their concerns and those facing the nation.
President Ruto has scored a significant victory despite the country’s ongoing unrest and protests, which have resulted in property devastation and loss of life. The protests, which were sparked mostly by Generation Z’s unhappiness with high taxes, featured calls for Ruto’s resignation.
Nonetheless, a large majority of Kenya’s population continues to back him ahead of the August 2027 elections, especially if the Mt Kenya region receives representation in the presidential cabinet.
Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu suggested in a post on Kenyans.co.ke that the Mt Kenya region run a presidential candidate in the upcoming August 2027 national election. Waititu feels that this is crucial to reuniting the region, which he claims has been split by President William Ruto’s alleged use of divide-and-rule tactics.
In response to Waititu’s comments, some Kenyans have expressed strong resistance to the Mt Kenya region producing a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections. They are adamant that they would rather re-elect President William Ruto, despite his flaws, than risk restoring power to Mt Kenya.
They attribute the country’s current issues to previous governments led by Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing them of widespread corruption and mismanagement that has created immense misery for millions of Kenyans.
