South Africa: Following an alleged hijacking near Cato Ridge on Wednesday night, a truck driver has vanished from sight.
The next morning, the driver’s truck was found dumped in Estcourt, but the trailer and its valuable cargo—a shipment of R7 million worth of Adidas sneakers—were nowhere to be seen.
There was a mad dash to find the stolen trailer and the missing driver.
Thankfully, there was an improvement when the truck’s owner found out that the trailer had been left behind in Verulam.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) joined the effort quickly and sent resources to locate the missing.
Their search paid off when they discovered the trailer on the Old Main Road that connects Canelands and Tongaat. It was still fastened to its shipping container.
After RUSA secured the area, it made contact with the owner, who showed up shortly after and positively identified the container and trailer.
But when it was found that the container had been emptied, hopes of finding the stolen goods were shattered.
The entire cargo of R7 million worth of Adidas takkies had been pilfered.
Authorities are putting up great effort to find the missing truck driver and apprehend those accountable for the hijacking and theft while the investigation is ongoing.
