Davido claims he is taking legal action for defamation of character against K24 TV, the top social TV network in Kenya.
Davido and seven members of his crew were reportedly arrested on Monday, according to a now-deleted article and social media post by K24 TV.
According to the allegation by K24 TV, they were taken into custody at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit following the discovery of cocaine valued at Ksh18 million in his private aircraft.
Kenya Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) distanced itself from the claim on Monday, calling it “fake news” on its X page.
The “Timeless” hitmaker denied the report in a statement released on Tuesday. “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls,” the statement reads. I want to reassure all of my admirers that there is absolutely no truth to these rumors.
“Despite April Fools’ humor, I find it incredibly irresponsible to fabricate claims of such international crimes, and my attorney is pursuing legal action against the media outlets that disseminated this false information.”
I don’t have any arrest records.
The Grammy-nominated musician said that after finishing his planned performances in Uganda and Kenya, he travelled back to Nigeria.
Davido went on to say that he has never been arrested for the crime in any nation.
“I’d also like to point out that I have never been arrested for a crime in any country,” he stated. Not America, not my home, not Nigeria, not any of the hundreds of countries I have called home throughout the course of my career. We appreciate your unwavering support. The source of our blessings is God. All of you are loved.
K24 TV’s costly prank On Monday, the network tweeted that their story regarding Davido and his crew mates’ arrest was inaccurate.
The media made it clear that the story was a part of “April Fool’s Day,” an annual celebration of practical jokes and hoaxes on April 1st.
On March 30 and 31, Davido gave a performance at the Raha festival held in Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens alongside other artists.
The Raha Festival unites people from all walks of life in an exhilarating celebration that honors the range and depth of African music, art, and culture.
“After showcasing his exceptional skills in Nairobi, Kenyans are happy with him.”
