Following a motorbike accident on Friday, Czech President Petr Pavel was released from the hospital and will receive additional treatment at home, a spokesperson said on platform X.
On a closed training area, the 62-year-old is said to have hurt himself in a fall while riding at a slow pace over uneven ground. After that, Pavel stayed the night at the Central Military Hospital in Prague under surveillance.
The nature of the injury was not described in detail, however it is not believed to be serious. According to the daily Blesk, Pavel might have suffered a broken rib.
The president’s program for the next several days, including his scheduled visit to Jordan the next week to meet with King Abdullah II, will not alter, according to the presidential office.
Since March 2023, Pavel, a former chief of staff, has led the member state of the European Union and NATO.
He has multiple motorcycles in his garage and is well-known for being a passionate motorcycle lover.
Pavel was forced to apologise in public and make a donation to an organisation that assists accident victims after riding without a helmet the previous year.
The president reportedly collapsed while performing a turn on a closed circuit, according to reports in the Czech media. There is currently no active police inquiry about the accident.
