Cyril Ramaphosa was inaugurated in for a second term as South Africa’s president on June 19, 2024. He hailed his broad coalition government as the “beginning of a new era.”
Ramaphosa, whose inauguration took place on Wednesday in Pretoria, is now confronted with the challenge of naming a cabinet that includes his African National Congress (ANC) party and coalition partners, which currently has a diminished presence in the government.

Last week, lawmakers voted by an overwhelming majority to re-elect the 71-year-old.
This comes following elections in May that did not yield a clear victor. As a result, the African National Congress (ANC) was forced to negotiate with five other parties, including the Democratic Alliance (DA), in order to create a government of national unity.
