Kabza De Small canceled a show out of concern for his safety.
The popular Tshwane MC and DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse was assassinated last weekend in Soshanguve, and Kabza De Small, an award-winning Amapiano producer and performer, is afraid. One of South Africa’s most sought-after musicians, Kabza, real name Kabelo Motha, was scheduled to play at the Bom Extravaganza All Black Edition on Freedom Day, April 27, in Soshanguve. However, he has canceled his engagement.
HE IS OPEN TO REFUNDING THEM.
To no avail, his management made an unsuccessful attempt to persuade him to keep the Saturday appointment. The management team then sent a letter to the organizers requesting that they issue an invoice to cover the entire sum that was given to Kabza. “After lengthy conversations with our client Kabelo Motha, we have reached a conclusion to cancel the event happening this weekend due to the sudden events that occurred this past weekend, due to our client’s safety,” the organizers wrote in a letter to the organizers. However, as we do not know when the client (Kabza) will feel comfortable traveling to Soshanguve, we would want to think about a complete refund. We hope that this will be resolved amicably and apologize for any trouble this may have caused.” Even though they added extremely skilled VIP security to physically watch Kabza, the organizers of the All Black Edition have accepted that they will not be able to see him perform in Soshanguve.
WORRIES FOR HIS SAFETY
The booking agency informed the organizers that the musician in issue was worried about his safety and security because of the recent spike in crime and killings in the Soshanguve region, the organizers stated in a statement. “We made an effort to persuade the management team and artist to take their decision to cancel into consideration. We even promised to provide an enforced security detail with VIP protection and other features to ensure his safety concerns are allayed, but our efforts were unsuccessful. We therefore sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to any of our customers and Kabza supporters.” The show’s organizers have assured me that an other well-known performer will take Kabza’s place on Saturday.
AN INCREASE IN CRIME IN SOSANGUVE
The South African Police Service has been working to combat the criminality that is occurring in Soshanguve in the meantime. To address the issue of crime, they conducted an Imbizo in Jukulyn last week. The government will bring back a few retired detectives to help with the more than 300 ongoing crimes in the Jukulyn neighborhood of Soshanguve, according to Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale. During the ministerial community imbizo, Mathale met leaders and inhabitants of Block X community hall, where they informed him and the officials that they were constantly afraid of criminals.
According to Mathale, the Tshwane Metro Police Department, SAPS Crime Intelligence, Tshwane Rapid Transit, and the Public Order Police were all part of the squad looking into the robberies surrounding Soshanguve.
DJ Mashata and his friend were shot at this week, and he eventually perished in a hail of gunfire. While his friend survived and was admitted to the hospital with bullet wounds, he passed away in the hospital.
