Chilemba falls
Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba’s eagerly awaited resurgence was abruptly ended last night in Moscow, Russia, when Russian boxer Alexei Papin knocked him out in the second round.
Just 2.5 months after retiring from the ring due to health concerns, Chilemba was set to face the other in an eight-round cruiserweight non-title fight.
Wearing black shorts with crimson and golden trim, Chilemba used the well-known Floyd Mayweather shoulder roll defensive move to get an early advantage in the opening round, maybe to shield his jaw, temple, and ribs.
But Papin was unrelenting, breaking through Chilemba’s defense in the second round with a series of expertly timed blows.
Papin caught Chilemba off guard by breaking through his defense towards the conclusion of the second round with a flurry of powerful punches.
Chilemba was unable to overcome Papin’s relentless barrage and was sent falling to the mat by a crushing combination.
The referee waved off the fight, crowning Papin the winner via knockout in the second round, despite his heroic attempts to stand back up.
The defeat is a blow to the well-known Malawian boxer Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba, who is based in South Africa and has a record of 27 wins, 3 draws, and 10 losses in his professional career.
