Dr. Oburu Odinga, Orange Democratic Movement party leader, is mourning his sister Beryl Achieng Odinga, who died at a Nairobi hospital.
Beryl, born in 1953, was named after Achieng Oneko, a close friend of their father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
Oburu, speaking at her requiem mass, revealed the family is still reeling from the loss of his brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, just a month ago.
“It is a very heavy moment for me, I lost my brother hardly a month ago and now I’m mourning my sister,” he said, visibly emotional.

Beryl, a high court advocate, had a distinguished career spanning continents.
She was Zimbabwe’s first black town clerk and served as a law lecturer in Kenya.
Oburu fondly remembered carrying his baby sister, describing her as lovely.
Condolences pour in, with Alice Owiti urging Oburu to “be strong for us” amidst the family’s tough time.
Beryl will be buried on December 6, 2025, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya.
