Raheem Sterling faced masked burglars armed with a knife during a break-in at his home. The Chelsea star acted to protect his two young children, Thiago (8) and Thai Cruz (6).
Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling reportedly came face-to-face with masked burglars armed with a knife as he tried to protect his children during a terrifying break-in at his home.
The incident happened around 7 pm on Saturday, an hour before Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge. Sterling was not in the squad for the match.
According to reports, intruders attempted to break into the player’s house, likely assuming he would be away at the stadium. Sterling and his family, however, were home at the time.
The 30-year-old England international confronted the men in a bid to protect his children, Thiago (8) and Thai Cruz (6), before the burglars fled. Thankfully, no one was injured.
A spokesperson for Sterling described the break-in as “the ultimate violation of privacy and safety,” adding that the family was deeply shaken but safe.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they are investigating the attempted robbery and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Chelsea FC also released a statement expressing concern and confirming they are offering support and protection to Sterling and his family.
This is not the first time Sterling has been targeted by burglars. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he was forced to fly back to the UK after armed robbers broke into his home in Cobham while his family was inside.
Jewellery and watches worth approximately £300,000 were stolen in that raid. In 2023, police named three Albanian nationals in connection with that burglary and other similar high-profile robberies across southern England.
Sterling’s bravery in protecting his children has drawn admiration, but the repeated invasions highlight the growing security concerns faced by Premier League players and their families. Police are continuing investigations into the latest incident.
